In 1954 it was decided to erect a new school at Rathbeggan and a site comprising one acre was purchased from Mr. Crean. The contractor was Mr. C. Martin and the school opened in 1961 with 43 pupils. It continued to expand and a prefabricated classroom was added in 1966. By 1970 there were over 70 pupils registered and a new extension was built by Mr. Patrick Donnelly, contractor. Further work was carried out in 1981, including a physical education hall, three large classrooms, a remedial classroom, a staff room and an office. The newly appointed school was reopened on 4th October 1982.
